Ask the Experts: Reimagining Successful Donor Engagement Amidst Change and Challenge
In a rapidly evolving world, donor expectations have changed. Individuals have come to expect the organizations they support to offer deeper engagement opportunities, compelling content, and personalized interactions at every step. The nation’s most successful healthcare fundraising programs are finding ways to meet these needs and create a new paradigm for philanthropy.
As the healthcare landscape continues to change as well, there are challenges with maintaining community orientation and donor connectedness while gaining the efficiencies of standardized fundraising operations to meet both budget constraints and modern donor expectations.
In addition to addressing these issues and inviting others to share their experiences, BWF’s Jan Wood and James Barnard will share an overview of their TEAM Framework - Tools & Tactics, Experience for the Donor, Audience Development, Messaging – an advanced methodology to meet today’s challenges and opportunities for meaningful donor engagement.
Speakers: Jan Wood, James Barnard
Jan Wood’s longstanding passion has been to help others achieve their goals and visions. She finds philanthropy’s ability to authentically facilitate meaningful and lasting positive impact on individuals and communities around the world to be truly inspiring. As a thought leader in the healthcare philanthropy space and an accomplished professional within the industry, Jan is continually driven by the knowledge that her work makes a difference.
In her leadership role as senior managing vice president of BWF’s campaigns and fundraising strategy division, Jan applies her strategic mindset and deep understanding of the sector, especially in healthcare, to her consulting. Additionally, she focuses on driving internal business development, service design, resource management, and other essential initiatives to promote sustainable division growth and overall company success.
Jan’s favorite pastimes include golfing, hiking, volunteering at “done-in-a-day” community projects, and visiting her children across the country.

James Barnard knew he’d found his place when he discovered the fundraising industry. For him, the opportunity to do good work and help others achieve their goals is priceless. As a fundraiser, he feels there are countless opportunities to make an impact by facilitating the impact others will make.
James believes that philanthropy fueled many of the most important changes in the world. By its very nature, philanthropy can facilitate an inclusive process that ensures there is a community of support to keep a good idea alive while figuring out a way to make it happen.
At BWF, James will use his decade plus of experience to help nonprofit clients develop digital strategies for fundraising and marketing. He has been active in CASE for years, having been a conference speaker and CASE District III board member.
Most of James’ free time is joyfully spent with his infant daughter. He does try to make time for other activities, such as Gaelic football (which some find strange for a Brit) and watching both live and televised soccer matches, and he’s an avid DIYer.
